R/GA Ventures, the communications company “for the connected age”, launches a new venture programme today dedicated to helping “a diverse mix of the next generation of entrepreneurs and startups that are using Internet of Things technology to transform everything from food waste to board games.”
Sounds intriguing, right? R/GA has been around since 1977 and is now part of the Interpublic Communications Group, one of the world’s biggest media agencies. Program sponsors include Innovate UK, IoT Uk, and aws activate.
The venture arm was created in 2013; R/GA Ventures runs its startup accelerators in collaboration with Techstars, normally in New York, but the latest cohort will gather in London, starting today.
Participating companies include den, “building the next generation of light switches and plug sockets”, Flock, which provides “pay as you fly” insurance for drones, Hoxton Analytics – a privacy-conscious in store data gatherer, smart home device maker Iota labs, hardware enabled software solution KG Protech, digital signage screen provider ScreenCloud, digital game Sensible Object, Snaptivity, a new way to enjoy live events by “capturing emotional, candid moments”, and Winnow, technology to cut food waste in half.
DigiSEQ, an IoT payment, access, and loyalty provider to the Internet of Things, completes the set.
R/GA provide capital investment of £75k to each participating startup, in exchange for 6% equity, as well as co working space at their London office in Epworth Street, Shoreditch.
The accelerator curriculum is “focused on each company’s individual needs and goals”, with mentoring and business development connections also provided, as well as “marketing, design, development, and branding services from RGA’s world-class staff”.
The program runs until 4th May, when the cohort will present their final pitches at an invite only demo day.
On behalf of HHH, we wish all cohort companies every success on their journey, and welcome R/GA Ventures to the UK! Now you’re here, you’ll never want to leave, trust us!
“As this is R/GA’s first ever IoT Venture Studio to be housed in London, we’re delighted that nine of the chosen start-ups are UK based”, says Stephen Plumlee, R/GA Ventures Managing Partner.
“”We look forward to welcoming investors, any interested corporates, and R/GA clients to the Venture Studio, to explore partnerships and to get a glimpse of the future.”
